Wisdom tooth removal charges

Hi guys, looking for some advice.

I need 2 wisdom teeth out which is fine. I was referred to a specialist in Dalkey who charged me 150 quid consultation in which he took xrays etc.

He said the wisdom teeth extraction will be fully covered by Aviva. BUT he charges an additional 250 quid as a "facility charge" which isn't covered by Aviva.

I'm wondering is this the usual thing? Or am I better off shopping around for a surgeon that only charges the consultation fee?

    Cheers

Went to Newry to get a bottom wisdom tooth out.

Paid £90 inc. xray, consultation and extraction. Only a local anesthetic needed.

I think dental is subsidized up the north. The place was called <snip>. Only a personal experience, but I was quoted over €300 to get it done in Dublin. I don't have dental insurance so it was a no brainer.

It's under sedation but the sedation is covered by Aviva.

Interesting as insurance companies pay me nothing for sedation!! Some surgeons charge a facility fee or a technical fee or a sedation fee.... Whatever you call it, there is often a separate fee as the insurance companies pay below the norm for these procedures and the shortfall has to be met somewhere...

You may find someone who charges no or less of an extra fee but you will pay another €150 consultation to go see him or her... Is it worth it??
