    If you want to throw your money away, why not just give it to a charity.....or send it to me.

    I have some experience of this, and here is the almost-official answer:

    There is no compulsory fee, the priest or minister is just doing their job by giving Baptism to a candidate;
    However - quite often they may have taken time off their Saturday afternoon, etc. to do it, and sometimes to oblige just one family, so a custom has formed of giving the priest a donation in a sealed envelope, towards expenses, or parish funds, or charity, or just as a gift, a token of appreciation.
    In my experience, a hundred quid would be far more than the usual. Think twenty, or fifty, if you have enough to be generous. More, only if you can afford it.

    Don't worry about this aspect, it really isn't the most important thing: just use your discretion and common sense.
    Enjoy the occasion!

    €50 for the priest and €50 for the Church.

    Amen.

    Our local fella happily does it for a couple pints of smithwicks and a few lines of decent sniff.

    Making a half door for the neighbour there.

    'How much have you to get?' says he.

    'Dunno. How much are men going?' says I.

    How about you put the 100 euros into a savings account and skip the Baptism, then your kid can choose when they are old enough if they want to join the organised religion club.

    1 baptism == 1 soul

    I wouldn't give them money, they will only spend it on drink and drugs. Much better to buy him a cup of coffee and a sandwich.

    Reading your thread title comes across as if "Priest" is a mononymous person, like Bono or Madonna.

    Religious threads in the religious forums please. The christianity forum members would be best able to answer your question I guess but don't post there until you've read their charter.
