Advice needed for urgent purchase

Folks,

I've got to buy a laptop today. Looking at one or two second hands on adverts but folks now saying they'll spend a bit more for a new with guarantee.

Max is €500. Has to be purchaseable today in Dublin.

Not interested in multimedia or gimmicks. Just the fastest basic platform with the best longevity for an accounts/word processing machine. Battery life isn't an issue - it will never be on the move (but needs to be a laptop form factor because there isn't a dedicated office space).

Have looked on DID, powercity, Argos, PCWorld and Harvey Norman and the total zoo of different model numbers and the fact that so many new laptops seem weedier than older models has me totally confused.

Any guidance most gratefully received.

Probably too late for advice but buy the laptop with the most powerful processor for the price you're willing to pay. Drives, memory you can upgrade later.

Got this one a week or two and it is very quick- and even better once upgraded to Windows 10 for free (Win 8.1 isn't great).

With your budget you could probably improve the processor as mentioned above too, a solid state further down the line would also make it quicker.

Lenovo have had a bad rep of late. I certainly wouldn't be buying their hardware at the moment.

Haven't heard that- saw this model recommended elsewhere on here. Hope you're wrong anyway!
