I've just ordered a new bike from Rose and I asked them to fit a quick link in the chain for me as they're building it (Shimano Ultegra)
They emailed me back saying Shimano doesn't allow quick links in their chains. Can't find any other mention of this online, and I'll fit one myself anyway, if possible. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I use SRAM ones. SRAM and Shimano are mostly inter-changeable.

I ordered a few of these SRAM Speed Links.
My best chain-related purchase was this tool for quick opening and closing of quicklinks.
I used Parcel Motel's Northern Irish Address for that delivery.

I suspect as a bike builder they just don't want to go against the manufacturer recommendations, and Shimano documentation only explicitly allows for joining using their pin. In the event of a warranty claim if Shimano found they deviated from that they might have to foot the bill, but by following the instructions to the letter, they can pass it back up the chain. The only caveat I would put against the SRAM links mentioned earlier is that they are only officially supported for one use on 10-speed (8/9 speed are reusable), where KMC and some other manufacturers allow for multiple times opening and closing the link on their 10 speed links, thus basically rejoining the chain. Only particularly relevant if you might want to remove the chain to clean it, but something to bear in mind.

Ordered 11sp KMC quicklinks from Rose about a month ago and still waiting on them. Should do the trick as and when they get them back in stock.

I bought a few 11 speed quicklinks in the cyclesuperstore. Same price as the cheapest I could find online.
