GPS not working

    Hi all

    I have a Sony Z3 compact

The last three times I've tried to use maps navigation the GPS doesn't seem to track me accurately and it doesn't give me any navigation or directions

    It used to work!

It's annoying now. Even when leaving phone up on dash, it didn't pick up that I was driving on the motorway and places me away in the middle of nowhere

    Can anyone help me?

Anyone have any advice at all? I need the maps for the weekend (lest I have to go the old fashioned route and consult an actual map!!)

What other apps have you tried to test the GPS?
There should be some GPS tool apps in the store that can help.

When I click into Maps in the house, it can locate me.
But when I'm' driving, it doesn't pick me up accurately at all and won't navigate a route.

Maps is probably locating you through wifi at the house because you usually don't get a gps signal inside. What mode have you your location settings set to? There should be multi options some of which won't include gps. Download 'gps status and toolbox' to see if the phone is picking up a signal, outside obviously.

You probably have location services turned off or disabled.

GPS would struggle to locate you inside a building usually, unless you're close to a window. It's probably being helped by the WIFI location.

Can you try a different app that uses GPS to rule out the GPS being borked?

Hadn't connected to the wifi at all for it to locate me.
    It's just frustrating.
I'll try what ye suggested and see.
Will only tell if I head off in the car again! :)
I didn't change any settings (manually anyway!) so not entirely sure what's happened
It's probably something small but I'm feeling quite thick today!

No idea. A quick search on the Play store should give you loads of suggestions.

Maybe try the app in my post!

Okay so I tried that GPS toolbox thingy. I stood outside for 2 minutes and it just says 'Looking for GPS location' yet in my settings location is on and the little balloon is on the top. :/

But location can be on without gps being on. Whats is location set to? Device only(gps) ? High accuracy(gps, wifi and mobile data) ? Or battery saving(wifi and mobile data) ?

    Set to High Accuracy!

If it's on any use, it says 0/23 in the bottom right corner of the compass and from looking at YouTube this means it's not connected to any satellite, so what is my problem ? :( It used to work! Software is 5.1.1 (no idea what this means or if it's of any relevance!)

Do I need to return it to the shop?!
Could it have developed a fault?
Or is there anything else I can try?

    Is your data connection on/working

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,780 ✭✭✭sentient_6

Im apprehensive to suggest it but I would try a factory reset first. But it will completely wipe the phone and you'd need to be prepared for that, contacts and data backed up.

If there were any other solutions I'd rather try that first instead of reinstalling apps and backing up photos etc but thanks. Considered it yesterday.

That app has a function for reapplying the gps settings which might fix it, possibly in the paid version only though.

It appears it's a hardware issue

Does anyone know if this is relatively easily fixed?

Where could I get it fixed?

If thats the case you would need to return it as the GPS would be embedded in the SoC.

Return it to where I got it? It wasn't an official Vodafone store, it was Mobile Phone Specialists. I bought it in February

Ya. Basically if its a hardware issue, software can't fix it.
