Has anyone had any success in getting an inactive twitter handle released so they can use it? Twitter state clearly that unless a handle infringes on copyright or trademark then they'll never release it. Short answer - no
Longer answer - there is a "market" in Twitter (and other social media) profiles. It's against the terms of service of most social media networks to sell / buy them, but it still happens
