Query on build quality (photos included)

    Hi,

A question on a new build house. Does the colour of the blocks seem different in both photos? Is there any reason for them to be this colour, a gas fireplace is going in roughly where they are so is it possibly they're a different type of block?

Also in second photo, what do you make of the quality of the block laying? To me some of the blocks seem to be sloping downwards and all in all the quality of the block laying looks poor. Also the pointing seems more recent in some of the blocks than others. What do you think? To me it looks like perhaps a portion of the wall collapsed and the middle part has been rebuilt.

My main worry is , when this is plastered over could there be any structural issues further down the line.

Just looking for opinions before I ask the builder and appear clueless if there is nothing wrong.

    Thanks

It looks to me like its an after thought, ie blocking up a doorway which used to be there? Block colours may simply be from a different supplier....

Yes the quality is utterly shocking. You can see the difference between the original block laying and this infill wall....

Or on 2nd thoughts it looked like it was knocked down to install a Padstone for the Floor Beam. Maybe an instruction by the engineer?

Thanks. Confirmed my suspicions. My query is , is this poor quality in the second pic just aesthetics or could it potentially impact the structure in future? If it was your own house what would you do?

    Thanks

It looks to me that the steel that the timber joists are bearing into is then bearing into the "different" coloured blocks. These block look like the higher strength blocks, maybe 10N or more. Very common to use these blocks where there is steel bearing as it can reduce the need for a column sticking out.

I think it looks perfectly normal (based on the blurred photo!).

    Second photo looks bad alright.
