Hey all - not too sure if anyone can help me with this one but here goes.

How exactly does the Eir website check to see if you can get Efibre. Does a System do a check on each line and dump this list into a DB somewhere for cross validation or is it just a DB of generic 'areas'?

I'm only asking because for as long as their checker has been active I've been on the cannot get EFibre (Living 2.5 miles outside a village where the local exchange has been upgraded)
Now today, it's saying I can get it and my area can get it, but a neighbour that lives between me and the exchange can't get it.

I'm not believing for a second I can actually get it but I'm struggling to understand the jump my line has made. There's no open complaint or anything - it's just for personal understanding.

    Cheers

You're line is on an exchange that has been enabled for Fibre Broadband, That's all you need to worry about.

Your neighbour may be unable to get it for a number of reasons, For example, Their line may be split between homes, when this happens only one side of the split can get broadband.
Or they may be on a different exchange all together,

Wrong. Carrier lines prevent all users getting DSL services, not just one side.

OP its based on testing by the DSLAM/MTAU which creates a database of all lines and what speeds they may be able to accommodate.

They may have commissioned a new cab. What speed does it indicate on the cheker?

Thanks for the reply - I wasn't sure if the detail would be available.

So it's done at an exchange level? That would explain it a bit.

    Cheers

Just read Ed E's post there.

It doesn't give a speed - just says

    'Great news!
Your home is eir Fibre enabled
We will remember the phone number / address on this computer'

I'm thinking it may just be a bug with the site today as there is no way I should be able to get it - I'm 2.5 miles away from the exchange with no cabinet anywhere nearer. (My line goes 200 meters to the Old Galway - Dublin Road then then to the local village along that route - so it would be easy to spot one of the cabinets).

If you're 2KM from a cabinet or 1.5-1.7KM from an exchange then you wont be able to get eFibre.

You can confirm this if you put your number in here:
