Solution for pre-wired house

Hiya,

Just wondering if anyone might be able to help. My partner's house i has been wired for sky coming into one room only. It's an apartment block and they won't let people install other dishes so I was just wondering if there would be any chance that maybe the line could be split into another room? Or is there another way it could be done? Thanks.

No, satellite signals cannot be split.

You can't ordinarily run two satellite receivers simultaneously off one cable. However, if you don't require both receivers to operate simultaneously, but rather require only one at a time (e.g. one box in sitting room in evening, and another in bedroom late at night), then you can use a priority switch. This can be used to automatically switch the incoming signal from the one receiver (slave) to another (master).

Thanks for the response. She's got cable into where the skybox used to be so could the old cable be extended to an upstairs room? Sorry for not explaining the layout better.

If the priority switch approach is OK for you, then you would disconnect the Skybox, and instead connect the incoming cable to the switch.

From that, a short connecting lead would run from the slave port of the switch to the Skybox. A longer connecting cable would run from the master port of the switch to the receiver upstairs.

So there's now two co axial cables to where the sky box is or just one?

Yes a sat cable can be extended to another room, typically with screw on f plugs and a coupler.

Yes, there's just one cable that was there downstairs. We wanted to hook up another upstairs if it was possible.
