Receiving 19E and 28E on one dish in GERMANY.

    Hi Guys.

I've moved to Germany in past few months. Am currently living in an apartment block where there is a dish already mounted on the roof receiving the German channels on 19 degrees east.

I'd ideally like to get access to the UK Freesat channels on 28 degrees east.

I don't want to potentially upset the landlord and other tenants by having a second dish on the building that only I can really benefit from.

I reckon the existing dish is about 80 cm. Would that be large enough to accommodate an offset-LNB for the purpose of receiving UK Freesat?

I am familiar otherwise the concept with of Diseqc switches etc. and have a pre-tuned receiver.

    My current position is 52.1833° N, 5.3000° E. That's in the North-West of Germany.

Where exactly in Germany are you, those coodrinates are in the Netherlands? I've a 90cm dish on my roof here in Hamburg primarily focused on 19 degrees, second LNB pointing to 28, feeding a multiswitch. Since they changed satellites at the start of last year I can no longer get a good signal on 19 degrees where I live. I can get a signal up until 4pm, maybe even to 7pm if the conditions are perfect. I've talked with a good few people, and even a 180cm dish will not guarantee me a signal in the evenings. The further west you are, the better your chances are.

    I'm in Soest, Germany @ 51.5711° N, 8.1092° E. That's in the North West.

My mistake for giving the co-ordinates of Soest in Netherlands.

Based on what you've told me, I think I would be better off with a second dish for the purpose of getting the 28E signal?

    Thanks.

You should be able to get a signal there with the right setup. Here's a map for reference. You might have to focus the dish on 19 degrees though. Best would be to give a local satellite dealer a call, they can tell you straight away what their experience is and what you would need.

Cool. Thanks for map in particular. I'll speak to the local dish seller.

Just saw in another forum where some guys from Meschede and Paderborn are getting signals without any issues on an 90cm and 85cm dish. That's not too far from you, so I'd say a good LNB should sort you out.

Wunderschön. Yeah, Paderborn is only over the road. There's an interesting computing museum there also (just as a side note).

    Thanks for the tip. :)

    Hi Guys.

I'd ideally like to get access to the UK Freesat channels on 28 degrees east.

You are unlikely to be able to get the BBCs, ITV CH4,. CH5 etc as these are all on the 28.2 East tight UK and Ireland focussed beam without a large dish and even then it can be tricky. You will get some the SKY channels but they will be encrypted. Some of the other low quality free to air channels (mostly shopping and ethnic channels) should be receivable. BBC/ITV with a dish under 1 or 1.2 metres - unlikely.

Thanks for flagging that. If the worst comes to worst, I know how to legitimately stream the RTEs and Freesat Channels over the web anyway. Though a dish for the main Freesat stations would be preferable...

After some rooting about on the web found this map which suggests that Astra 2E (BBCs, Channel 4 etc, the only channels I care about) should be receivable in the North West of Germany on a 90cm (or greater) sized dish, albeit with some concessions - poor signal in thunderstorms and so on.

Very hit and miss but at least you are north, in most of Spain its impossible now.
