Is 1.6 under powered for an A4?

Looking to buy a motor and came across this:

    https://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/audi-a4-1-6-se/10678127

But is 1.6 underpowered? TBH I'm coming from a 1.5 Mazda 323 which seemed fine and I don't have much experience with cars bigger than that. I'd be mainly doing city/ suburbs driving in Dublin but would want to take it on a longer spin on occasion. Any thoughts about that car would be greatly appreciated.

I think it is yes. My brother had the 2.0 version and it was just about ok, it's he same for the E90 316 BMW.

Yes it would be like a 17 stone man on a Honda 50. Best to go for the 1.8T.

That engine only has 102bhp and that engine has also been around since the mid 1990s. The 1.8t is much better and worth the extra few quid in motor tax imo.

It all depends on what your expectations are. If you're buying an A4 to be powerful then the 1.6 won't do.
But if you just want something that's at least as fast as your 323 then tbh the 1.6 A4 will be grand for you.
You still get the same refinement, comfort etc as a bigger engined one. If that's your kind of thing then by all means get a 1.6.
This is a motoring forum, and the enthusiast answer would be to get the biggest engine you can get away with. There is some sense in this alright, but it all comes down to what you want out of the new car.

For mainly doing city/ suburbs driving in Dublin it'll be grand, it's petrol so welly in first and she'll be grand taking off at roundabouts etc where comparatively much higher powered diesels would be sluggish off boost.

For longer spins on the motorway it'll get to 120kph and stay there, for overtaking you'll likely have to use 3rd or 4th but that's what the gearbox I for.

Your 323 as mentioned would be much the same if a tad freer reving.

For €6/€7k you would find a 1.8T model that would be much better performance wise admittedly.

Agreed but be prepared to spend your juice. My a6 was a hoooor on the juice. But in saying that when your driving a car that has a bit of poke in it your gonna let it loose every so often.

Fair play to someone wanting a petrol Audi. 1.6 is way underpowered though, unless you want to be paddy last, all the time.
