Importing into UK - EORI Number

    Hi,

Basically, I am in the early stages of importing goods from China and selling them through Amazon UK.

I registered for an EORI number recently through Irish revenue. I was under the impression this would suffice for when I needed to import goods into the UK from China.

Now I have sent it to my freight forwarder in the UK and he reckons that he needs a UK EORI number. I thought this EORI number was introduced to be a europe wide number.

    Anyone have experience of this?

Are you good physically arriving into the uk and not Ireland? If so you will need an uk vat reg and eori number.

    Thanks for the feedback,

Well thats answers that so. Goods are physically arriving into the UK.

UK VAT number requires a UK bank account as far as I know.

    And so the journey begins.

Any obstacles to an Irish resident opening a UK current account I wonder?

You don't need a VAT until you hit certain thresholds assuming you've setup a LTD company structure.

In the UK its £81k in sales, in Ireland I think its €75k.

The EORI number simply identifies you as a business operator and helps you solely with customs. In practise however most freight forwarders will offer a service to custom clear the goods on your behalf (for a fee) until you get sorted but you will need one eventually.

Anyone recommended a good reputable freight forwarder in the UK?

Importing from Chine direct to UK.
