Can anyone shed any light onto the differences between the 3 boards on the drill plough. some have the middel board forward and 2 boards behind, and some vice versa, like the one i bought?

    any ideas, ta.

I haven't ever seen them any other way than, the middle body forward, the outside body's back.
The only reason I can think of is , one of the two back body's got strained/broken. They may have been able to get a front body easier s/h. So they put 2 forward bodies , and kept 1 back body. If that makes sense to you.

Might swap them round how.much of step do.you leave between middle.and two side.boards. ie..how far forward it one from the other. Thanks see pic. Embed of you can

Any Fergie Drill plough I ever saw had the centre body forward. All you have to do is ditch the two long drilled length of angle iron and the rearward stay, and bolt your centre body up in the usual place.
It wouldn't have been built like that to accommodate some kind of seed hopper, would it?

There is no difference in a forward and rearward facing "leg", they are identical, just reversed.

I asked on another forum and got the following answer.

"Setting the ridging bodies like that would be more stable, less yawing (side to side ) and allow better soil flow, depending on soil codition, if all the bodies were set in a line across you can get a blocking effect if soil volume cannot exit between them easily, so as they are would be easier to keep straight rows, also could have been set to ridge something other than potatoes"
    "

Thanks all, do would it make much difference if i kept it the same as it is, or would it be worth trying to swap them round with the outward boards to the rear and the middle board to the front?, thanks

There are a couple of examples here of various setups - yours seems to be set very far back from the tractor for some reason. Probably to accommate tines or something? Does not make a huge difference though. Hope this may help.:)
