Walking shoes should be replaced every 300 to 500 miles (or every 3 to 6 months)

I only replace shoes when there is coin sized hole in the sole, which is every ten years

I have over ten pairs of shoes so not very often as I swap through them. Besides dress shoes I'd change them every year and a half or so. Have to have new shoes.

Sneakers? Are they something a robber would wear?

    Runners. The word is runners.

Anyway, my answer is they should be changed when they begin to smell.

    Really?

Can you not dump em in the washing machine?

Or do you throw out your clothes when they smell too??

Runners are things like Assics. Sneakers or trainers are any other shoe outside of dress shoes or semi formal shoes.

If that's actually the case with shoes, people should really invest in a decent pair of boots.

That's a pretty big hole. You're gonna need a bigger boat..... We used to call trainers gutties up here. Not sure of spelling.

How the heck would I know the mileage on shoes? Is there some hidden odometer I never knew about?

I wash runners when they smell and discard shoes/runners when they wear out. I alternate shoes and have some pairs over 10 years old.

I replace shoes, runners, footwear, et al... When they are no longer viable. Mostly they have to walk off my feet!

I own 5 pair of good runners, one pair going back to 2003, I did the Dublin Marathon in them in 2004, they are still good.

I have a good pair for Zumba dancing, a pair for spinning, a pair for they gym, these never get worn outside the gym. I like to keep mine for specifics, I don't wear runners for everyday use.

But work shoes, they are replaced every 6 months if I get that out of them, they just fall apart.

I have 2 pair of Wellies for walking the dogs & gardening, 2 ankle boots, 1 going back to 2001, 1 pair of knee length boots going back to 2004, and a pair of desert boots!

I obviously spent more on footwear yeas ago,

I wear only suede shoes/boots and with a good waterproofing spray I find I get about a year out of them. I have a pair of Asics runners that are years old now, get worn walking 3-4 times a week in all weather and they are still in perfect condition.

I have about 5/6 pairs and pick up a new pair when I come across some I like. Tend to throw them out when the back of them wear away and start to cut into my feet.

Low heat so you don't melt the glue and avoid the dryer or they'll shrink.

I throw them out when they start letting in water, right sole always wears the quickest.

I change them when they disintegrate on my feet.

I am wearing recycled tire as a shoe these days. Good running shoe as well.

These shabby shoes I'm wearin' all the time,
Are full of holes and nails,
And brother if I stepped on a worn out dime,
I bet a nickel I could tell you if it was heads or tails,

Whenever the ones I have currently stop being a viable option.

Gutties start letting in water even after a scratch on the sole. The crack looks like a cross and then every time you go out your socks get soaked. It can develop into coin sized holes but you are really stretching things out in their duration by that stage.

The one thing that unites gutties is that no matter the cost, nikes at 80 quid or hi tec at 15 quid the minute you get them wet you are truely fecked. Smell like a salmons knicker drawer.

There are no "sneakers" in the Old World, and certainly not in Ireland. I don't think we have trainers in the republic but they do say it in Belfast.

    Viz Top Tip

SHOES last twice as long if only worn every other day.

Usually go through about 3 pairs of shoes in a year. Until very recently I only had one pair too at a time (now I have 2)

Shoes (like most clothes) aren't something I spend too much time thinking about. Just buy what I need and replace when it's no longer suitable.
