Did Bob Geldof ever take in those four Syrian refugee families?

Bob Geldof has said he is prepared to take in four refugee families to do his part in helping to deal with the growing migrant crisis.

Speaking to Dave Fanning on RTÉ Radio One, he said that he looks at the crisis with profound shame.

He said he understands the economics and the politics, and that the root cause has to be addressed.

However, he said we are in a period of fundamental shift and when people are poor they move.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0904/725613-geldof/

I'm just curious. St. Bob has had almost 2 months to put his millions where his mouth is and lead by example. And it's not like he's busy working in the studio or touring. There are plenty of people who would talk the talk, but not our Bob. No, he's a man of action you see....

....Nah actually like most pontificating, overpaid, patronising wind bags, old Bob was talking out of his hoop the whole time. Still, it got him a few pats on the back from his Guardianista chums.

Did anyone end up taking in refugees or was that yet more empty social media slacktivism? It's kinda disturbing all the same just how disposable the fashionable minority of the week is with those who need to display their latest pet cause on facebook and twitter.

There was a few here on boards who claimed they were opening their homes, would any of them care to follow up with how things went, hmmm?

This bizarre episode in mass idiocy will be comedy gold for reeling in the years 2015. It was the new Kony2012 there for a few weeks....

Indeed he didn't, he did however manage to multiply the Ethiopian mouths to feed by several million. It's ok though because he has decreed that we should take in refugees and that makes everything fine and we all lived happily ever after. The end.

Should have looked after he's own family, before attempting to look after the millions!

Weren't......you one of those claiming that they'd open their home to refugees?

If Geldof takes in refugees to his own home, you will know all about it. He will be all over the media waxing lyrical about it.

    How so ?

Did he advise women there to have as much kids as possible ? like Mother Teresa did in Calcutta ?

Yes but he found out that they were quite right wing and chucked them out.

He is still searching for a left-wing Syrian (and he'll be searching for a long time)

What was he supposed to do? Take traumatized, wrecked people and parade them in front of the media to make himself look good or satisfy your curiousity? His daughter is only dead a year,at least he stepped up to try and do something.

Of course he didn't I know a woman who wanted to take in refugees and when being told her house was on a database she crapped her pants a lot of these people when push come to shove are all talk no action. It was just a pathetic stunt from geldof.

Intervening in a third world famine, where having massive families is the norm probably wasn't the best idea in hindsight. But I'm sure Bob had thought of all that before he went charging in. Social engineering comes with consequences.
Anyway I'm sure he'll have a better plan when the next inevitable famine happens.
And don't get me started on that wench Mother Theresa.

U wot m8? Either he should take in the Syrians like he promised he would, or he should keep his mouth shut and stick to his ivory tower. Otherwise he makes himself look like a fool. Again.

Is there a cast-iron guarantee that he hasn't taken them in or won't?

I think we would know about it if he did. Old Bob wouldn't be shy when it comes to self promotion. So after 2 months, I think we can safely say that either:

    A. Bob has quietly shelved his brain fart idea

    or

    B. Those 4 Syrian families are going to be seriously pissed at having to wait this long for Bob to make up his mind.

He's done a hell of a lot more than anyone on this forum. I advise you all to be more aware of the actual conditions on the ground in Syria. Those humanitarian workers risk health and family for being in tough places. They are part of the solution to the conflicts unlike the propagandists that operate in the media and many people on sites on the Internet use to suit their points and ideologies.

    That's a bit harsh.

Yes, his wife left him and subsequently died, and his daughter overdosed...but not sure I've heard both or either were due to his failure to be a good husband or father. Why do you say he didn't look after his family?

Well, despite almost unanimous intelligence reports that Kony isn't, and hasn't been a threat or major player in the region for a number of years now, President Obama decided that he was sending in US troops to search for Joe. USA! USA!

The guy who made the Kony video subsequently went mad and started waving his dick at traffic. I'm not even making this shit up:

Yeah. I wish people would consider all that Geldof as done for Syrian refugees so far. He had to leave his mansion, tip on down the road to RTÉ studios and talk to Dave Fanning about Syrian refugees, before making a false promise house 4 families.

Worst of all for poor Bob has been the sleepless nights where he tosses and turns stressing out in case anyone ever calls his bluff.

    Hero.

I heard Sir Bob was looking to writing off some money due to the taxman if he took in refugees :D

I looked him up on Wikipedia and he has a KBE from the Queen, never heard of a KBE before.

Is that not Knight of the British Empire? That's the source of the SIR Bob Geldof.

KBE = Knight Commander of the British Empire, i.e. A knighthood.

However he is not Sir Bob, as he is an Irish citizen.

I was speaking about the work of humanitarian agencies and I would include Bob Geldof in with those people who aid people suffering in warzones.

Waaah. Slacktivists and champagne socialists are being called out on their hypocrisy, so now you want the thread shut down.

The pope was spouting nonsense about every parish in Ireland taking in 1 or 2 refugee family's, I wonder did he take in the two families after.

He did according to the Guardian

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/sep/18/vatican-parish-takes-in-syrian-refugee-family

Some towns in Ireland already have several Syrian families, Thurles has about 12 families.

Geldof is a hypocrite huh? Or is it just the self-loathing talking?
Never got the hate for Geldolf displayed by AH, is it the KBE or living in London? Either way the comments about his family's share of tragedy are pretty sick.

As a heads up. You're better off reporting a post than mentioning "mods" in the middle of a thread.
