I have a new build with a line ready to be connected. I checked my sisters line who lives next door who can get max of 24mb, my mam who lives a small distance away can only get max of 2mb which is slightly confusing. I have been told fibre is to go live on our line on 4th November 2015 which will increase max line to 100mb. However the distance from the exchange is approx 3.5km. One operator has said il get approx 50mb when fibre goes live. Is this correct?

It depend how far your from exchange but if your sister get 24mb and your next door you probably get 70mb if it vector 100mb.

The cabinet is 3.5km away. I'd be happy with 10mb - would my line achieve that do you think?

If you're 3.5km away and remember It's not as the crow flies you probably are too far for efibre. I thought the max distance is 2.5km. I could be wrong.

There's a blue line passing - I'd be happy with 6mb as that's wat I get with mobile broadband it's just I don't have unlimited data and my data is always used up quickly

Is there any point in me getting a line installed even for just achieving approx 5-10mb or should I just stick with mobile broadband

Well that depends on what you get with mobile broadband? If you wanted to have unlimited downloads for cheap Vodafone are 38 euro for unlimited broadband only. They can install a line for you as well

Never mind I seen your previous post, if you're using up your data then going with Vodafone for only 38 euro unlimited 10mbps broadband wouldn't be a terrible idea. If and when you're upgraded to fibre they'll upgrade your line for free anyway.

The 24 is sales bull****. You're on at most a 5Mb line, that WONT change.

A friend of mine works in one of the company's I'm thinking of using and he checked my sisters line (she has an inactive line) and said the max is 23.44mb - he surely wouldn't be using a salesmans line on me.

    Vodafone say mine's 24Mb. It's ADSL1...Max speed is only 8Mb. I get 6Mb.

Inactive line = disconnected at MDF = 0m length = not a real rating. He needs to understand the tech he works with.

In fairness to him, I never told him it was inactive. So an inactive line would show up different to an active line would it?
