    Description
Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) is Ireland's national public service media organisation. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost effective, free-to-air multimedia services to the public in Ireland and to audiences of Irish interest worldwide. RTÉ sits at the heart of Irish life and in the centre of an increasingly competitive media sector.

RTÉ has a number of integrated business divisions, one of which is RTÉ Radio. RTÉ Radio operates four national stations (RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2fm, RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta) and five digital radio stations (RTÉ Radio 1 Extra, RTÉ Pulse, RTÉ Gold, RTÉ 2XM, and RTÉjr Radio).

RTÉ Radio now wishes to invite applications for a Radio Producer training course and panel.

The Radio Producer role is a highly creative and key role with RTÉ Radio. As an RTÉ Radio Producer you will lead a diverse, skilled and hugely creative team to produce programmes of the highest national and international standard, across a wide range of disciplines. You will have direct responsibility for the creation, development and production of innovative content for RTÉ’s stations and listeners.

Reporting to the Station Head or Editor, the Radio Producer has editorial control of the content and delivery of programming and must produce those programmes in line with legal and editorial principles. Successful candidates will also manage the financial, technical and human resources assigned to the programme in a manner that will maximise production value while fulfilling programme objectives.

The Radio Producer role will require you to be capable of exceptional editorial judgement, a strong sense of audience and the understanding to work in support of RTÉ’s remit and purpose as-well as having strong creative flair and imagination. You must possess the wisdom and courage to make robust decisions in the creation of programmes and in the service of our audiences.

    Applicants should possess the following:

A record in the development of strong creative content and/or stories of public interest, from idea to execution
Significant experience of decision-making in a media environment, preferably radio
Evidence of an ability to inspire and be a part of a creative team in a live, pressured setting
A background in or knowledge of online production, IT systems and new/social media
Proof of excellent judgement and the capacity to influence, lead and manage a team

Applicants should be familiar with the character and programmes of all RTÉ Radio services and should understand the challenges of working in the highly competitive radio market. Excellent general knowledge is expected as the Radio Producer role will cover areas such as Music & Entertainment, Sport, Current Affairs, Arts & Culture and Social Issues and as such experience of knowledge in any of these areas will be an advantage. A high standard in spoken and written Irish will also be an advantage.

It is proposed to form a panel from this competition from which future vacancies, should they arise, may be filled. As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an assessment on Saturday 28th November 2015 which will be held in RTÉ.
Candidates for the panel will be required to take part in the Producer training course which will run in RTÉ over a number of weeks commencing in early 2016.

Applicants are invited to submit their Curriculum Vitae and a covering letter outlining how their skills and experience best meet the requirements set out above (please attach as one document)

Closing Date for receipt for applications is 5pm Friday 6th November 2015

RTÉ is an equal opportunities employer
