Painting the porch?

My porch is not heated and I want to freshen it up. There are a couple of small cracks in the paint. Can I just use pollyfilla? There is a sealant like substance coming away from parts of the door surround, what can I use on this? Do I need a special sealant? Also around where the floor and wall meet I have a small kickboard but there is also cracks around some areas of this. (at the top of the board against the wall) What can I use to fill this in? Please? Sorry if this is very basic but haven't done this myself before. Thanks :o

Probably yes. If they're just small settlement cracks then a filler will do the job fine, but if the plaster is pulling away from the wall for some reason then you may need a bigger repair

The door surround is probably sealed with silicone sealer (same stuff that's around a bath).
Painter's caulk is widely used for indoor gaps between skirting boards and the wall and can be painted over. Get both in any builders/diy shop. It comes in a rigid tube and you need a silicone/mastic/caulk gun to squeeze it out.

Thanks a million. My hubby is great but he would just paint the porch and not see this other stuff needs to be done first! At least if I get this stuff done then I won't be giving out about him not doing a proper job on the porch.
