AppleCare+ on refurb macs?

Do Apple allow this? I won't bother buying one if not. The Apple limited warranty is rubbish for the most part.

All I can find is basically that; limited on refurbs.

That seems fine to me, beyond that limited scope you are basically talking insurance for a couple of years - can you get that from someone else at a reasonable price?

I bought Apple Care for my 27inch mid 2011 iMac back in 2011, had to use it in 2013 when the display panel started dieing...no problems.
Last month my graphics card started to die and obviously it was out of warranty but none the less Apple informed me it was covered for 6 years under manufacturer defects under EU law. All I had to pay was the standard 50e charge for the diagnoses of the issues by iConnect.

Yes you can buy AppleCare on the refurb products. As afar as Apple are concerned they are exactly the same as new.

Whats rubbish about it? Same as most companies at 1 year.

They're rubbish too. Anything that costs as much as an apple product shouldn't have just 1 year of coverage. I like Apple products, but I really think they should have longer warranty.

There is no AppleCare+ for any Macs.

I think you'll find there is. It's called apple care protection plan or something but it's the same thing.

I think you'll find there are AppleCare+ and Apple Care Protection plans available from Apple. The former isn't available for Macs.

I've a macbook pro that is just over a year old now and was thinking about getting applecare but what does it give me that our standard consumer rights here in Ireland provide?

It seems we can make a claim up to six years if there is a fault with it, but I guess maybe with applecare they're less likely to kick up a stink?

As far as I know AppleCare is only purchasable for 90 days..

AppleCare Protection Plan can only be purchased within the first 12 months on computers, 90 days on iDevices. They seem to be dealing with problems under the Sale of foods Act now, so it becomes redundant anyway.

I've bought refurb Macs and bought Applecare for them (involves inputting online the refurb serial number on Apple's servers, so they know it's a refurb), and I've never had any issues.

Under EU consumer law and specifically in Ireland, the Sales of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980, the goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of merchantable quality, and Apple have taken this to mean that Macs should last around six years.

In the US, thanks to big business, consumer laws are much more limited, and vary by state, so Apple (& most other consumer goods manufacturers) have settled on a one year warranty, and if you want more you'll have to pay for it, so Applecare is still a big deal.

The six-year thing wasn't always Apple's European method of dealing with issues, so Applecare was useful in times past, but it is less relevant now, as you can quote the Sales of Goods Act, and state how your issue means that the goods aren't fit for purpose/of merchantable quality.

Apple Care protection plan not available for iOS devices any more.

Only AppleCare+ which needs to be purchased within 60 days of original device purchase date.
