    I think I need a filling.
I had a check up and cleaning earlier this year and it cost €60.
    Fillings cost around €60.
Will the dentist charge me for a check up or just the filling?

Haven't you answered your own question? ?? It should cost €60 then.

DO you think you need a filling or did the dentist say you need a filling at your last checkup.

If the dentist said you need a filling and you book in for said filling the dentist will charge you the filling fee, you say this is 60 euro.

If you yourself think you need a fill but your dentist has not told you you do you will need the dentist to check, take a x-ray etc and then carry our a filling, which may be a filling plus a check up fee.

If you think you need a filling and you go to the dentist and it turns out you don't need a filling then the dentist will charge you for the time, or the check up fee.

See the thing is you pay the dentist for their time, consume more of their time, get charged more. Dentists are not salesmen either, they charge for diagnosis too.

In summary, your dentist will tell you how much it will cost.

Are you aware of a cavity&/are you in pain? ie: why do you feel you need a filling?
    Your options are
1- Book in for a 10 minute appointment, "can you give a quick glance at this individual tooth?". You might be charged a nominal fee, or nothing at all if you a regular patient& nothing is seen. If it needs an X-ray/investigation, there will be a fee. If something is discovered, book another appointment for a filling.
2- Book in for a routine full mouth checkup. Recommended at 6monthly intervals anyway.
3- Book in for a filling appointment. Only if you're certain you need one, as the receptionist will be allocating 30-40minutes of surgery time to allow for this.

Unless you're 100% certain that you need a filling, Option 2 makes the most sense I'd say, re overall value.
