My wife's phone has got stuck in a boot loop an I can't find any info on what to do with it. Is there any kind of standard procedure I could try or is it just Good for the bin?

Which type of reset have you tried so far?

I can't get that menu at all. It still just loops with power and vol up pressed. At one point I got into a factory test screen but there was nothing useful there. I cleared the emmc but that didn't change anything.

I got a little dead robot now but no accompanying menu

I eventually managed to get into the recovery menu and did a factory reset but the same thing is still happening. I don't know if I can flash the original ROM from the SD card and recovery screen or if I need to get a Windows PC and use a flash tool.

Flashing a ZIP of the original ROM isn't working either - just get installation aborted each time.

Is there any generic way to flash a ROM without access to a Windows PC?

So I borrowed a Windows PC and flashed the stock ROM with SP flash tool a d the phone won't turn on at all now. When I plug it in the red LED comes on for about 15 mins then goes off but there's no reaction from the power button. I chose to format the phone before installing the recovery image and android as per the instructions on the SP tool website. Any chance I did irreparable harm somehow?

    I had a elephone p6000
Basically if you’re going down the root of sp flash you need to do a bit of messing around and from what I remember I wipe/flashed the whole thing including the bootloader.

You will get different colours, four I think for each one and in the taskbar you’ll get pop-ups about driver being installed

Just downloaded the software, from what I remember

    Format tab-Format whole flash

    Download tab-scatter loading-select file

    Press Download

As i said youll get a progress bar in different colours and the windows has installed and names like bootloader moden etc

That's what I did, although I didn't format the bootloader. Maybe try again formatting the BL and leave all the components selected?
With no power it's unlikely though.

Yeah go for the bootloader, I had to do that and then it worked

After that make sure its the right rom, there is loads out there, I use to use http://bbs.elephone.hk/ but thats a 404 error now.

Again as you'll see on that there is a load of roms, might as well keep trying, rather than bin the phone

You need preloader drivers and scatter file for SP Tools to work.

Here is an article about the preloader drivers required on your Windows PC for the SP Tools to work.

Here is a tutorial. Check your MTX SoC......

According to here the P3000 has a MT6582, which is covered by the tutorial above.

    A lot of reading.....

Here's a video for unbricking MTK phones...

Have the drivers, have the scatter file, everything seems to go fine during the flashing process and I get the Success icon. I retried this morning with formatting the bootloader and downloading everything but the only difference is that the phone now reacts to the power button - a second of the screen lightening slightly before going off again. I've seen numerous posts from people saying to charge it for 4-5 days (!) so I might as well leave it plugged in for the weekend and see does it do anything more.

    Very strange, hopefully that helps

The elephone I got had battery issues, never worked properly from day one. Random battery percentage, never seemed to fully charge

I hope you didn't get it from etotalk?

I left it charging all day and when I came back the LED was green. Switched in on and the startup music started playing, then froze like a broken CD. Took the battery out and put it back and now it's back to square one with the boot loop.

That's enough trying for me, she can wait a few weeks for her birthday!

Hi.....have you watched that video I embedded above?

It's pretty comprehensive, and goes into the boot-loop problem.

I'd just give it a try, nothing to be lost.

***Sorry, the article on how to fix a bootloop was moved......

I tried, but after ten minutes of "this doesn't work so do this, then that doesn't work so do that" and then he took out the screwdriver, jumper leads and crowbar I thought it was well beyond my reach :D I only had the loan of the Windows PC for an evening anyway.
