    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience doing this route everyday for work?
Are there cycle lanes on the N4?

    Thanks

Avoid going over the N4/M50 flyover and you'll be fine. Did it once and never again. Cars do not expect you to be there, plus you've to merge with traffic.

There is a cycle lane round it

Yes, very good advice. Ended up doing that myself, and it's not nice.

There's cycle lanes a lot of the way. But which side of the N4 are you starting from?

If it's Stewarts Hospital side I would use the pedestrian/cycle bridge, cut across into Liffey Valley and turn right towards Leixlip. You have a busy roundabout at the end where I would go straight through, I think it's St Lomans Road, turn right where it would bring you to the crossing of the N4 at Woodies but turn left onto the N4 and immediately on the left there is a cycle lane all the way to the roundabout at Leixlip.

If you are starting from the bowling alley side I would head over the m50 flyover at the back of Liffey Valley, you can use the path as it's mixed use, then you have at least a buslane all the way down to the fonthill road, busy roundabout, turn right, onto the mixed-use path (watch for broken glass), which brings you to the St Lomans Road roundabout and same as above then.

If you dont like those roundabouts there is bound to be a pedestrian crossing not too far from them

I should say it's not my commuting route but I go out of the city centre a fair bit to leixlip in evening rush houR.

Coming back is slightly different but you can either go through Lucan village which is safe enough with a buslane for most of it or if you are happy to cut across the traffic at the sliproad into Lucan, use the bypass and there is a buslane to the flyover at SuperValu and cycle lane pretty much all the way from there to Palmerstown via the pedestrian/cycle bridge down to Aldi in Palmerstown.

Thanks! I am coming from the bowling alley side so will go through Liffey Valley.

from town ,heading west, i take the old N4 to the footbridge (over the M50)at Kings hospital/liffey valley the use the cyclepath (on the inbound side) all the way to pitch & putt at leixlip slip (i avoid lucan village), then down the hill to Leixlip village etc this is when on hybrid/MTB (can handle debris on cyclepath better)

on the road bike i cross over the footbridge at Sureweld/Texaco and use the cycle lane/bus lane on the N4 up to past Spa hotel/McCoys and right at the juction/lights to go down into Leixlip

I used to commute daily from Leixlip to town via the N4,Just used the bus lane on the N4 the whole way in and out of town..The inbound M50 flyover isn't too bad at all but if you're nervous just use the footbridge/cyclelane just after the Deadmans inn but I've never used that in that direction..I do use it coming out of town these days though as cars coming out of town onto the M50 and toward Liffey Valley don't give you an inch and it can be lethal crossing the traffic coming off the M50 at the side of Liffey Valley too especially in the dark..Get good lights and hi vis though either way
