I am thinking of buying a car from evra motors. I am just wondering has anyone bought a car from them before?. I normally buy from big garages but they have the car I want with low mileage etc. Just hope they don't always change names or move.

From this I'm getting that maybe his dad owns beechlawn motors and owner is in his 20s. Trading around a year.

Thanks colm I did check on solo but it says Dublin 16 and the evra motors I am looking at is in Dublin 12 so I don't know if they are the same company.

They are registered at the same (home) address. (That's normal)

Not a bad thing. Beechlawn is probably his dad's garage.

What's the car? Link to the ad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 LouiseS1989

    It's a golf gt sport 5 speed 1.4..

I didn know that they had turbo compared to the normal golf so I am unsure if I should go for it.

Would that mean that it would take more to fill the tank compared to a normal 1.4 car?

Unless it's the 1.4 TSi engine then it doesn't have a turbo. You will know straight away after a test drive, the non turbo 1.4 litre is sluggish.

    It's not a TSI.

Interesting description of the 80bhp engine :pac:
It also comes with a huge spec incuding. GT race-winning engine technology.

Yes that's the car. So would it just drive the same as my opel astra 1.4? I just wanted to know the difference really to this car compared to a normal golf...
Is it just the body that us different?

Thanks sorry I don't have a clue about cars and I can't find much on the Internet.

GT Sport is just a trim level or spec, there is nothing mechanically different about it over a standard 1.4 80bhp Golf. You probably will notice a difference in performance though from your Astra in that the Golf will feel a bit more sedated especially for overtaking.

Assuming your 1.4 litre Astra is an Astra G or H model, that 1.4 litre engine has 90bhp which is 10bhp more than the Golf has. My advice is go give it a good long test drive and see if you are happy with the performance.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Maybe I will just stick with my astra then ha...
There isn't much difference and the golf is 10bhp slower so I am not to sure about that..

    Thanks for your help.

Taking it back to OPs original query, anyone had any dealings with Evra Motors?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 LouiseS1989

I didn't end up buying my car from them but only because when I went back to buy it someone had already put a deposit on it...

My cousin though bought a car in Dec from them and has had no problems...

Got a Opel Astra 1.7 CDTI 2010 from them first thing i did when i got the car was service it just to make sure the garage told me that that car was never serviced and that it had a few big problems. So i brought it to evra motors and the fella was like so what do u want me to do about it as if he didn't have to do anything so i told him that he had to fix it then a day later he phoned me up asking me for money to pay for a new clutch. Then i found out that the car was crashed and they never told me so I would recommend no one do business with those people ever!!!

So after reading the comment above yours, you are still considering buying a car from them?
Sure buy the A5 and come back in three months and tell everybody to avoid them.

You couldn't make a decision based on one stranger's opinion, that would be daft. I'll be dropping into Evra Motors this week as they have a car I'm interested in (which is why I saw this thread), and so far I haven't seen many opinions of them good or bad, and that's good enough for me at this stage. If I buy from them and the car explodes within a week, I'll post about it. Then again, I'd take my opinion with a pinch of salt too.

The difference between a good garage and a bad one is how they treat you when they already have your money and you return with a problem. The same can be said for builders, plumbers, mechanics etc.
The poster above had a problem/issue with a car that they bought and the seller basically said fck off. With that attitude you'd be better off buying private

Hi I'm going looking at a car there today, bit weary tho, I've done an online vehicle history check and the car colour is saying green, but the one in evras is silver, should I be concerned?

Could be just me .....but if it's the punto the bonnet isnt aligned right and has a gap around the drivers headlight aswell as the bottom half of the drivers door beside the pillar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭jaspertheghost

Ya that's the one, I noticed that as well the drivers headlight is loose and has a broken clip, I asked was it crashed but he said no, I think it was, as far as the color goes I rang the vehicle check company and they said its a mistake on the site, didn't buy it anyway, he came down by 200 quid but said he'd service it and said if the timing belt is gone he'll have to charge full price, which I thought was weird so I walked away

That doesn't sound great especially about the timing belt.

Is there any way of finding out if a car was ever crashed? Would the Gardai tell you if you gave them the reg? Pity there isn't some form of national database of cars involved in crashes - or maybe there is ?

I am interested in a car at Evra but not sure now. The price was good too but perhaps there's a reason for that.

Crashed cars can only be tracked if reported to the insurance company or cops, I done a check on my vehicle.ie and it said there was no history of crash, I'm no expert but it just didn't look right to me, plus the price and very lowilage seemed a bit to good to be true

That's exactly what I was thinking about with the low mileage and low price!

The mrs sister went to buy a car from these guys. Was delighted with it and came back a week later with the balance having paid a deposit and a mechanic that had come.with her on the first visit. They noticed scratches on it that wernt there the week before and and unusual amount of grass and muck on the underside. When they questioned it the guy went bat **** mad apparently. Was very rude to the point where she left without buying it. She was full sure he went into the toilet and took something as he came out like a bull looking for a fight. Long story short I'd stay clear having read this thread on the back of the story iv already heard of them.

This thread has been around a few years and I am closing it as info about this dealer has become stale.

People, feel free to start new threads asking for trusted and recommended dealers.
