Hi I recently finished college and only started working full time in June.

Last year I had a summer job (only worked one day a week during the year) that paid ~330 a week but I only ever paid USC and not PAYE or PRSI.

For all intents and purposes I was in the same situation this summer having not worked prior to that point but have been paying PRSI/PAYE from the start (amounts to around €50-60 a week, gross pay is €400-450 depending on the week). I dont know if this is because I am now working for a state body that it comes out where previously it hadnt.

Is it possible to claim this back since I wasnt working for six months? As in my jan-june tax credits that I didnt use cover me for the 2nd half of the year? If so can I claim back while I am still in employed, once Im unemployed or is there a set time of year when you apply?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, citizensadvice.ie etc havent been much use in explaining this!

Something is off alright. What is your taxation basis on your payslip emergency, week one or normal? Also when in doubt about taxation speak with Revenue first as they issue instructions to your employer on how to tax you.

Ok at least its not me going mad!

I know Im not paying emergency tax as my boss sent off my last P45 with all my pay information when I started. As I said its a state body so I kind of assumed that it was all right an above board.

When you say speak with Revenue do you just call up and they should tell you over the phone? What information would I need for them before I called them?

You need your PPS number that's it. You need to check if your employment is registered and that your tax credit cert issued on a normal cumulative basis.
Also are you sure it's PAYE you are paying? You should be paying some PRSI. Are you paying the pension related deductions?
