Working off a phone so can't create a link but on RTE App that Dublin Marathon 2016 will be ran on the Sunday rather than Monday of the October Bank Holiday.

Its not the worst idea in the world & allows people to enjoy the BH Monday but the clocks will have gone back so loose an hours sleep or forget & turn up late!!

This is something I have always wanted - I believe DCM organizers always wanted it too but were hindered by bureaucratic obstacles concerning people's ability to get to Sunday mass with all the road closures.

Might make it more attractive to UK based runners as not a bank holiday there - speaking as one myself the idea of having to take one day less holiday off work (ie just taking monday off rather than monday and tuesday) would make me more likely to consider Dublin next year

Having read the link above actually it does seem like this was a consideration, boosting numbers from GB and NI

Will have to run a 2:45 next year to make 12:00 mass.

Just heard it on RTE 1 sportnews. But how will they manage it with Mass and churches along the route? I think its a great idea but they'll be will grumbling closer to the time.

The one bad thing is I assume the Expo will be Friday/Saturday instead of Saturday/Sunday now....meaning people who don't live in Dublin will have to take a day off work on the Friday to get to the Expo or else use valuable energy travelling up and queuing one day before the marathon.

I'd suspect it will be a one day expo.

Us westies still end up having to take the Tues off after it cos for the mortals among us, getting steamed/home/steamed and being at work the next day are generally a no-go :)
I'd love it on a Sunday, then I could stay down that night and be in no panic to get home. Not that I'm ever running another marathon like >.>.

If it stays on a Sunday I might be more likely to do it again in the future - not next year of course though :pac:

The extra revenue from NI/GB/continental European entries will be very hard to ignore.

Once they have a race number there'll be no obstacle getting to mass.

Depending upon one's religious persuasion runners could find it quite a theological journey, e.g. there's the Unitarian Church on St Stephen's Green in mile 1. For those who'd like to take a short detour off Chesterfield Ave there's a Baptist Church at Ashtown. At around 9.5 miles along the route they would definitely pass by the RC church in Chapelizod (but they could take a short diversion to the CoI church there).
For those who want to get offended, or design their 'down with this sort of thing' placard and harrumph outside their place of worship, here's a map from which you can find the 20-odd churches on the route:

    http://www.dublinchurches.com/dublin-churches-google-maps.htm

The vast majority won't be affected, as the runners won't have reached those locations in the later miles. Not unless they're running at 'My Lovely Horse' pace.
