Insurance after claim

    Hi all,

A few months ago I was involved in an accident (I was liable). At the scene there didn't seem to be much damage to either car and both drove off after exchanging insurance details.
In the past few week I have received a letter from my insurance company saying that as well as claiming for damages to the car the other party is claiming for personal injury.
Does anyone have any experience with a case like this. How long do they usually take to resolve? And can I expect a hugh increae in my insurance premium when it comes to renewing.
The whole thing has me very worried.
    Thanks

Hi OP, this is an all too common occurrence these days. Did you get any photos or anything? Chances are your insurance company will settle and payout. Of course the victim may genuinely be injured but whether she is or isn't makes no difference. Insurance Co. cant afford to go to court and pass the settlement costs onto Joe public.

Your premium will jump a decent bit depending on who you are with, how many years ncb you have or if you have step back etc.
Finally don't worry about it, nothing you can do now just let the insurance deal with it.

Timewise, if the 3rd party elects for an Injuries Board assessment, that can take 6-9 months. If liability is not in dispute, your insurers may make an offer to make it go away earlier. There is no set figure, it depends on the alleged injury, time off work, age etc

    Thanks for the replies.

I have step back protection on my no claims bonus.
Unfortunately I didn't take any photos, I got a bit of a shock as it's the first time I have ever had an accident so I didn't even think to take any.
My insurance company assures me they will try to deal with it but if not it will be investigated by the injuries board. It's kind of frustrating that they give no indication to what injuries are being claimed for.
I won't be looking forward to my renewal, but I will just have to deal with it, I better start saving now I suppose.
