I was just walking through the village where I live, and saw the fire brigade driving slowly down the street. I didn't know what they were doing, until I realised they were checking if all the fire hydrants were working.

How often would this be carried out, out of curiosity? :) I have never seen it before, and I presume it's pretty important to check.

    Annually, generally.

Good that it is, I remember one time where I grew up they had never been checked. They popped open a few lids to find them stuffed with random **** and it delayed them by a few minutes. Thankfully the fire was not serious.
