Just listening to a piece on the radio today re: the future resale value of VW cars in light of the lies they were telling, and was wondering how much this really will affect VW as a company?

Has it made you less likely to consider a VW in the future?

Never considered buying VW, so answer is NO. It didn't make me less likely, as chances of me buying VW were already at 0 level.

No all this Green, environment, eco crap is ruining cars. This New stop start engine and dpf filters, they would put me off more.

If something in the range suited my needs then I would have no problem buying one.

I couldn't care less about the fact it was an emissions issue. I do have a major issue with the fact it was a deliberate lie however. I cannot stand lies. So for me, I'm less likely to buy one.

After issues I've had in the past it was already highly unlikely I'd buy one anyway.

Hopefully the answer is yes, which will affect their market value and in turn make me more likely to buy one. Planning on picking one up next year, the scandal hasn't changed that. I've zero interest in diesel anyway.

Hi everyone. I have a 10 Skoda Octavia 1.6 . Recently I got a letter re the emission scandal. Yesterday my EGR Valve went. Are the two issues linked. The Skoda garage said the part will be €400 not including labour. I know nothing about cars so I am just wondering has anyone any advise ..... Thanks

No I'm happy to purchase VW again and I just put in an order for a new Golf over the weekend. Admittedly it is a 1.4 TSi 150BHP.

No EGR Value can go in any car, so not linked to the scandal.

Of the cars I've owned I've most enjoyed owning the VWs.
Honestly if I could afford the cost I'd have the VW variant of the current motor I'm driving.

I think VW were stupid, or stupid to be the company caught first. But it doesn't detract from the rest of their product which is overall excellent.

Probably not linked in terms of the timing of events but definitely linked re emissions control :

In internal combustion engines, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduction technique used in petrol/gasoline and diesel engines. EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders.

A valve that costs 400squid! Ouch!

There are rumors that Seat are working on a Leon Cupra Diesel with the 240PS and AWD out of the Passat as running gear. If that is announced I'll be down to the dealer, sweaty checkbook in hand.

I intend to buy a Golf R. Unaffected thus far.

If it ticks the boxes I'd have no issue.

If someone is offended by the emissions that's their prerogative, nothing wrong with that. I'm not in the least little bit bothered, quite probably showing ignorance but I'm not going to change as I'm stubborn too.

I was reading today that VW want to compensate the government here directly for any losses due to the issue with emissions! Lets be honest, what have they shaved off? a mickey mouse few g or Co2? So what they ridiculously cheap tax will go up what in some cases? E10 per year?! WOW! Youd swear it actually mattered. This isnt some leap from 500-1000 or 750-1500. Its pocket change and a total irrelevance. What is probably relevant for VW is the fines...

It could be a hell of a lot more than you think. My car is taxed at 280 . Next tax bracket is 390. 110 of a difference. 110k cars affected. Over 10 million a year. And it goes back to 2008 but proportionally less cars affected in 2008,
Then add. Vrt into the equation. It could cost thousands more to register a car so there could be a substantial bill owed for that as well.
But this is only here say from me. We can't put any numbers together until vw put their new co2 numbers together.
The funny thing is they came out at the time saying co2 figures wouldn't be affected only nox figures so I believe they don't know themselves what they are doing.
