i'm currently a student on btea and found a part time job to keep things afloat. I'm not sure if there's a maximum amount of hours I can do. The website is very vague. It says I can work part-time but doesn't say if there's a maximum limit. The job is in the evenings/weekends so it won't interfere with my studies. Can anybody share some light on this?

Q7. Can I work part time and claim BTEA?

Yes, participants may commence part-time work while on the BTEA without affecting their rate of payment

I asked a similiar question to my local BTEA officer and was told that < 20 hours per week is considered part-time. However, she also said it is unusual they check as long as it does not interfere with college attendance etc. Not sure how they check this, or even if they do.

When I rang them to let them know I was working part-time after this they more or less said - thats nice, but we dont care really as you are allowed.

The only thing that may be affected is any secondary allowances such as rent etc. and that may take a bit of form filling.

BTEA is not means tested so you can work as many hours as you wish, you just need to make sure your studies are not affected and you pass the year.
