Ringworm in cattle

Some incalf heifers are developing ringworm. They are outside and are on good grass and 2kgs ration/day. We had it about 5 years ago while heifers were housed, awful looking and stopped from selling some as replacements. Any cure out there or at least something to prevent it from spreading further.

Ask your vet about Imaverol. You spray it on.

Imravol is very good and fast acting, bit expensive though if you have many to do..

We get Iodine in a spray bottle from Vet and it stops the spread and cures it but a bit slower than the Imravol, much cheaper though.

Don't forget you have to be wearing a yellow waterproof jacket as well and you need to make the sign of the cross over the holly for every animal you need cured. Jaysus Muckit you wouldn't want to forget an important part of the cure!

chopped onions in a container hung from the roof in sheds is suppose to be good to prevent ring worm, viruses and other stuff.
Seemingly it attracts bacteria and viruses

had incalf heifers with this last year. tried everything. wasted money trying to treat it. imo just leave it run its course

Iodine works by putting on the affected area.

Harmless if it doesn't work though.

Actually, it's probably worth a go. I've heard years ago never leave a cut onion lying up for long. Once cut it attracts bacteria, and absorbs it so could be worth throwing half in the calf shed too.

It's nonsense. If there was any truth to it ever hospital in the world would spend have their budget hanging onions above every door in the place. Anyone advising treatment with raw vegetabes being left around the place needs their head checked.

I think you've got this mixed up. This is a tip for getting rid of the smell of fresh gloss paint.
