Pilot ejected according to reports, jet came down 5 miles from the base after just taking off but report that the pilot has been heard talking to Lakenheath, so fingers crossed he's ok

Most likely F-15E and not F-18. The USAF do not use F-18s only USN and USMC>

Didn't know any F-18s are land based in the UK.

BBC reporting that police have confirmed F18 pilot killed in crash. Aircraft was not UK based.
