Is it possible to move from T2 to T1 after security - i'm travelling in the morning from T2 and I want to check something out in T1 after security?

Yes . Several T2 checkin flights leave from T1 gates. Look for flights that don't leave from gate numbers in 400s.

But I am not sure if you can go back to T2 afterwards

If you walk by the AerLingus lounge on the departures floor you can walk from T2 to T1 and back again easily.

After you go through T2 security, go around to your right through the duty free until you reach a bank of 2 or 3 elevators to the departure gates. Take the elevator to the lowest floor available (I forget how they're marked). Come out of the elevator and follow the corridor around to the left. You'll go past the Etihad lounge on your left, keep going and you'll arrive in T1 duty free.

It's perfectly possible to switch between terminals after security and to return back again.

I have a question - can you go through security in one terminal if your flight leaves the other terminal?

Provided you have no luggage to check in, yes you can.

Just leave extra time to walk across to your gate.

is there any difference in security waiting times / queues between them?

    Not in the mornings, no.

Later in the day T2 can be quieter.

It depends on how many passengers are departing in the next hour and how many security lanes are active. The Dublin airport smart app tells you the current wait times for both terminals, it's at the bottom of the first screen.

I did this for an Aer Lingus Regional flight two months ago. I went through security at T1 even though the flight was technically T2. I didn't have any checked bags. Aer Lingus Regional use the gates where the old Pier C was so the walk from T1 is a lot shorter than from T2.
