Radiators Flushed But Not Working

Need a little help here please

A couple of weeks ago I had my heating system flushed. Beforehand the rads downstairs were working but didnt heat up totally. (The boiler is upstairs and is less than a year old). They guy who came out flushed the heating and said the rads are in a bad condition and I should replace them. Fair enough I will do that.
He also said however that my boiler is being starved of water because my tank in the attic runs out of water (This is true, since the water meter was put in outside we have had pressure issues) and that is the reason why now the rads downstairs dont work at all. I should point out that one rad downstairs is brand new but doesnt work since the job.
He said I need a filling loop fitted from the main water pipe into the house ans will solve the problem but I cant understand how if they were working before why arent they working now after I paid €200 to have the system flushed.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

€200 sounds very cheap to power flush a heating system. What method did he use to flush the system, did he use a machine and chemicals.

If you are referring to the small central heating tank in the attic and you are saying this regularly runs out of water, then you have a bad leak in your central heating ststem.
(...since the water meter was put in outside we have had pressure issues) and that is the reason why now the rads downstairs dont work at all.
    Nope.
Something is wrong with your central heating system.
If your system is full of water and some of the rads are not heating, then you have circulation issues. If header tank is emptying then you have a leak problem.

K Flyer is spot on with his comments as usual.

Just wanted to point out that if you have had water pressure issues since the meter was fitted then there is very likely a leak on the mains outside your house. Ring Irish water about this.

Your system should have been power flushed when you got the new boiler. A lot of boilers insist on this as part of the warranty process. If it was flushed then, it would not need to be flushed now.

It might be time to get another plumber out. Try get a recommendation but not ,ah he's a great plumber, sure didn't he fix a leak for me and he was dead cheap. You need someone to recommend a good heating plumber.

Without me sounding like a contrary miserable sod :) a well flushed system can end up shagged again if there is a bad leak.

Also OP power flushing is a great thing but isn't always 100% as heat exchangers and some pipework can be missed if the contamination is thick enough(but in fairness it's rare).

I'd fit a magnetic filter which works well to remove any magnetite(bits of rad) and also works like a dip stick to monitor the levels if any of contamination in your heating system.

He didnt power flush it he hooked a pipe onto the pipe feeding the rad in the hall and drained it out onto the road. It was a deal through Facebook

I meant the cold water tank that feeds the boiler

    Not sure if I understand.
Are you saying that the small tank in the attic that feeds the central heading is loosing water and emptying fully?
If this is the case, it is highlighting a leak issue with your central heating system.
Whilst you can contact IW to deal with the water pressure to fill the tank, you will also need to get someone else to investigate your central heating system.

Op what you did was pay some clueless cowboy 200 euro to break your heating. What you got was nowhere near what a powerflush is or should be. Any decent engineer wouldn't have left your system until it was 100% rectified. If you post your location maybe somebody on here can reccomend somebody good for the job

Yeah the main cold water tank in the attic has the pressure problem.

Rgi means absolutely nothing when it comes to powerflushing. By the sounds of it he's probably driving a taxi at night, delivering post by day and when he has spare time he's doing "flushing". Expect to pay 400-500 for a professional poweeflushing service. I'll pm you a name and number

I'll look forward to the mod DM
