New dairy venture - low expenditure options

    Hi all,
Recently purchased 80 acre block some distance from the home farm with the aim of developing a stand alone unit. The long term aim would be to stock it with cows. The land needs tidying up in a big way but would be a free draining block of ground- anyway thats not a big concern. Once reseeded and paddocked (i understand cost associated with this) the plan would be to build a parlour hopefully under the grants system. My question is would it be best to build topless cubicles along with parlour (high expenditure) or use the home place to house cows and transport them in spring/autumn. There are no buildings on new block. A parlour, cubicles and tower/lagoon would be a big spend in one go (especially as new entrant). Would hauling cows up in spring and back in autumn be feasible for a few years or should i push ahead with the greenfield site. This is a long term plan (5yr +). looking forward to your replies/advice.

16 unit basic parlour 100 cows.
Feed space for the 100 cows and your done. Use your home place for housing cows.
There is a few ppl I know doing this
Spend the money when tour making it.
You can stand off cows in yard if it's a wet time

was thinking along those lines. Would probably need lagoon or tank for washings anyway. would the people you know calve cows at home first and then move or put them up there a few weeks pre-calving?? done alot like that in NZ.
