Selling a Northern Ireland registration car

    Hi,

I'm awaiting delivery of a new car and will be selling my current car in the next 4-6 weeks.

It's registered in Northern Ireland so I'm wondering whether people such as myself normally put it on the UK Autotrader site or whether it's worthwhile also listing on the Irish Autotrader site, together with the VRT calculation result (€3,782 ).

I moved from the Republic to Northern Ireland a few years ago, before anyone thinks I've been dodging the customs officers ;)

Depends on the car, if it's a 2 litre Celica no, if it's a 2012 BMW 520D yes.

Think it's a diesel accord. They're hot stuff right now

Yeah, you're right. I can't find one for sale in the Irish Autotrader to compare the Irish price against the UK price (plus VRT).

There are a few for sale in the UK Autotrader so I'd probably just base my price off those:

    UK Autotrader Accord Type-S 180bhp

I hadn't considered advertising in the Irish Autotrader until the weekend when a friend, who the car itself turned out to be over-budget for, queried the tax rates in the south. It appears that, at 154g/km, it falls into the €390 band so I reckon it'd be an easy enough sale either side of the border.

Is yours not an ES GT though?

    If it's a 180bhp one you're laughing

No, it's the 180bhp. That's good to know. I think that, given the cars value, I'll just go ahead and list on both sites when I'm putting it on the market.

I'd say you'd be eaten alive for it down here. You just don't see them for sale.
    What year is it?

    It's 2011 with 78,000 miles.

That would have been my next question - given the 2009 with 53,000 miles and the 2010 with 44,000 miles, both listed at £11,000, what would would you list a 2011 with 78,000 miles at (all else being equal)?

I reckon the above prices are a little over-ambitious but I'm no expert - far from it :)

There's massive variation in pricing. I went to see a few of the cheaper ones, and they all had stories to tell.
I wouldn't be afraid of asking all the money on donedeal, as they are genuinely in demand. And you'll appeal to those that don't want to get a ferry to the UK.
