I was wondering why the signal was so **** all morning on my new Virgin sim when I had 3G with o2 last year.

Turns out Three have decommissioned a 3G mast in Borrisoleigh. I have line of site to this mast in Knocknaharney.

Nothing will change they said :D

I also noticed the NBS areas are now 2G only.

I'n not sure who you mean. The European Commission fully understood that Three would be shutting down services in NBS areas when they gave the OK to the merger.

The main benefit of the Multiband Spectrum Awards (MBSA Dec 2012), to operators, was that they could deploy any technology at any frequency (800,900,1800) on any mast. I doubt ComReg have much of a clue where anything is anymore (if they ever did).
