Been reading up lately on a 3 way dairy cross of holstein, montbeliarde and viking red.
Seem to produce a decent animal that will tick most boxes but I know too much crossing can mean an uneven size cow type throughout the herd which van be particularly annoying at milking time with heifers...anyone with any experience of these cows or opinions?

I've been watching some of the MO / HO / Norwegian Red breeding with fascination ... particularly the guys at http://www.dairyxbred.com/ who compile really comprehensive breeding & production records.

Not sure why more people here don't pursue this sort of experimental approach - I know there have been periods of x breeding in the past & now some emphasis from Teagasc & the like but these guys seem to go at it with a real energy.

Wouldn't suit me as I like the girls to look charming for photos... but if I was looking for commodity production I'd certainly look into it further.
