I am considering doing music in maynooth as part of arts with English and I was wondering if an instrument is required aswell if you are a singer, I currently play no instrument only basic guitar and have grade 8 singing I wish to learn basic piano skills during my three years in uni either in maynooth or at home at the weekends I am just wondering if I am suitable for the course I am also obviously doing leaving cert music and have been in various choirs. How much of the course is performing and what is involved

An instrument is not required if you are a singer. If you take music through an arts degree, as opposed to doing the bmus course, then you can audition to join the performance module (using your voice as your instrument) or you can take group piano classes instead. There is one performance module in first and second year, and in third year you can chose to major in performance if you feel that it is your strongest area :)
