Out of the accounting game for too long

    Hi all,
I worked as a fund accountant for 5 years til 2010. Anyway, I really didnt enjoy my job so I decided to go travelling. I returned to Ireland hoping to get back into the financial game late in 2010.

If I didnt get work, my plan was to study the ACCA accounting. I sat my first set of exams in 2010 and passed the final exams in 2015.

I went on the dole for a while and HATED BEING UNEMPLOYED. I went back to working in the leisure industry. I worked there when in university and had contacts there so I was lucky to get off the dole.

Anyway, IM now unemployable in the accounting/finance sector. Most recruiters & employers don't want to know me. They all say, your out of the game too long, you have no experience, go to jobbridge.

The things is IM going nowhere near jobbridge, it means becoming unemployed, refusing work for six months til I become eligible for the scheme, losing all contacts in the leisure industry and then hoping I find work via jobbridge.

Any advice on how I should get back into the finance/accounting industry. The fact that I worked very hard for these accounting exams doenst seem to register with any employer with the exception of those who have studied and passed the exams

    regards

You are in an unfortunate position.

Were you working in leisure while studying?

Is there a possibility of a sideways move - into accounting in the company you work in now or in a similar company?

What sort of roles are you applying for?

Your accounting experience was very specific and was several years ago.

There are plenty of threads in the accountancy sub forum.
