I think there was no doubt that it would come to Portrush sometime, but it is nice to have it confirmed.

Great for Irish fans to be able to get to an Open championship by car or bus.

Is great news - can't wait my first Open could be on this land.

Now accomodation - you think Irish was bad.

This is going to beyond a joke.

It'll be crazy. I actually doubt I'll go, but it is great for Ireland to get the gig.

    As a player or spectator?
Heard on the radio that their bid was conditional on implementing course changes and devising appropriate infrastructure and logistics. That said they can't build new hotels for just 4 days of golf so will be interesting to see what they have planned.

    Both.

The place is traffic jam on main street in summer anyway - you can hardly get a table at a restaurant around the harbour.

Most accommodation around town is traditional guesthouses and small hotels.

    Will be very interesting.

    Here it is.

    (Mod edit)
Surely it would make sense for Irish Open 2018 to go to Portrush too?

Gives the organisers a full dry run, while it should help attract a few of our major-seeking American tour cousins across the pond to get a dry run too.

Makes sense on a few fronts but I'm not sure "The Open" would be having any of that.

There use to be a sense that the rota of Open courses was for The Open - but with the way of the modern world - The Dunhill Links has debunked that idea.

So if it is happening at the home of R&A. You could say , why not in Portrush.

It is a good idea - but it would perhaps not fit the image , would ruin novelty to have a lesser event at the course prior to the big one.

Good idea - but agree with PARlance , can't see it.

Not to mention the long rough will be guarded as it can take years for tournament walkways to recover.
