I'm looking at a 09 with 129k on the clock, commercial ..it's clean and tidy looking,
Do you rate them well? Any known issues you ever had with them?
    Cheers

They are temptingly cheap and are nice enough to drive but have a serious bad rep l know 1 lad that got caught with one bought it new got a new engine in under warranty but was stuck with it no trade in value if you are buying one cost in 3000 for new engine so if you can get 09 for 5000 you would be doing ok

common-rail give a lot of trouble in them

Know a lad with a mid 2007 one. He has it from new and he had a path bet to the door of Nissan with it. and the hardest work it does is pull a boat trailer or a trailer and ride on mower about 1 mile .

for the same reason a lot of the Navara are no better.

Don't know if they share the same chassis as the Navara, if so then look for 'rotten' chassis forward of rear wheels.

Seen an 07 Navara getting a body off resto recently!!!!

    Is the Navara any better?

I've been reading up on some on the D22 engines-
With the con rod bolts that are NOT up to the job, causing engine failures. It appears that some lads have replaced them with a better quality...i.e. Nissan's own ones are ****e.

    Steer well clear lad.

Probably twice the price but you can't beat a Landcruiser.

Landcruiser is way off my budget..not many for sale either.
I might use this info on the Navara is get one cheap...from what I read if you get the jobs done properly on them...they're no problem.

Is there not a problem with the gear box and clutch as well with the navara?

Lad beside me has one .
He's had a lot of trouble with it even though it's a fresh 07 with low mileage.

Sore on diesel too he said but I suppose if you got one cheap enough...

If you have some time to hand, I'd suggest you look for a 100 series Land Cruiser, the second last shape from current. A good one with lowish mileage will be hard to find but they do great mileage if looked after and are generally recognised as the best of that incarnation of Land Cruiser. Buy on condition and servicing rather than age. They came with a 3.0 Turbo Diesel engine ( before c.2001)and later a 3.0 D4D (after 2002 for a short time). The ones I'd recommend would be the later 3.0 TD.

They rank with the Daihatsu Fourtrack and 3.1 Isuzu Trooper for reliability and longevity.

the older navaras must have been better jeeps, know of two and the lads have them maybe 5 years each and no problems.. they would be 03-04, neither would get too much abuse though..

Have one for the last 3 1/2 years . It's an 08 auto passenger model. Never once had an ounce of bother with it . That said it only does about 10k miles per year. Have heard horror stories about the engines but I keep it well serviced and haven't had a problem.

Loads of room inside and good to pull a trailer.. Have towed mini diggers , the odd tonne or 2 of briquettes, timber etc with it.

On the down side it's hard on juice and the tax is a killer. I was thinking of changing it to a 5 seater commercial but would need something else for the kids . Overall very happy and would recommend .

I had a 07 from new. Got rid of it in 2014, Thank God. Needed two drive-shafts, despite being well minded and no hard work. Hard on diesel......... tyres expensive......

An even bigger ball of sh1te. They have a seriously annoying habit of putting the big end out the side. Brother in law has one its 04 and has more weld now than original chassis and has put two engines in it. It would work but is not dogged, serviced on time every time.

Are the automatics any more reliable/ worse?

A neighbour of mine has an 08 one I believe with all the bells and whistles. He said it pulls a full box of lambs (double deck trailer) up a hill near our house as if he had nothing on behind him. He was using a hilux from work a few weeks ago and he said it felt like he wasn't even going to make it up the hill at all. Seems like a great yoke to me and a lot cheap alternative to those pricey toyotas

A few months back I was dropping my car off at the local garage and there were 2 identical blue navara's parked up side by side. I remarked to my mechanic how co-incidental it was to have 2 the same in for a service, at which point he proceeded to show me the puddles of engine oil under both of them. Con rods through the side of the block. I think they were both 03's.

Never really heard of a landcruiser or hilux struggling with a load within reason tbh. 2nd hand prices are high yes, but that's largely down to a proven track record over the last 30 years. Unfortunately nissan ain't what they used to be since renault took over :( There are plenty of cheap alternatives to toyota's some good some not so good, the nissan's would generally be classed as the not so good when it comes to their 4x4's. Some good reports on some of the Korean brands but their poor resale value would put me off but if bargain hunting this can actually be an advantage.

Anyone have any chassis corrosion issues on 05 to 08 model's?

I'm only going on what the man said! The way I see it there are good and bad models of everything. I know men that have been driving around in pajeros for years and never had much trouble with them, but I also know that we bought an 08 one second hand and the gearbox went in it, ended up selling it for half what we bought it!

Father has a 06 with 200k plus on it and no bother. I'd say servicing had a lot to do with issues.
