Timing Belt - Labour Costs

Hi All

My Ford Focus 2005 Mark 2 needs its timing belt changed. I am going to source the belt myself, but was wondering how much labour would cost so when ringing for quotes will know what to expect.

Just let the garage source the parts, many wont fit customer parts and you lose the warranty so its pointless.

Not a DIY effort, moved to main forum.

Sourcing belt yourself is not necessary, unless asked by the mechanic. The cost of the belt is minor to compared to final price.
Also mechs like to source belts themselves so they know what they fit is right.

Ring 3/4 local garages and get quotes.

Are you sure it's a belt and not a chain in that model?

Cheers for that - re the chain / belt, I am not sure, I am just using the the catch all expression. Money very tight and the sourcing my own parts had been suggested to me, albeit my a similar non techie person like myself. Will make the calls and compare the quotes. Many thanks.

Is it automatic or manual ?

Automatic one I have(2005 mk2) has 1.6 100 hp ford zetec-s engine that requires timing belt changes every 8 years or 100K miles.

I think all manual mk2's has mazda engine with a higher power which has a timing chain not the belt.

No, Belts on both power versions and there is a specific timing lock kit required for the higher hp engine. The belt is cheap. Just get quotes for the complete job.

Also, the water pump is not timing belt driven on this engine.

Depending on where mechican hourly rate varies from€30 to €120 lower rate been guy does it on side highe rates some of larger dealers with timing belt you can expected 4-6 hours.

You don't say if it's petrol or diesel or even what engine.
