James O'Brien, 22, of The Mill, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow pleaded guilty to the assault of Mr Creighton in the early hours of 1 Jan 2014 on Saint Dominic's Road, Tallaght.
    ...
O’Brien, who has no previous convictions, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison with the final 18 months suspended.

This seems very very low to me. I suppose the reasoning is that the victim died later in hospital, so he was only charged with assault? Still seems like very weird sentencing- am I missing some context?
