Bunk bed stair lock help!!

We got a bunk bed yesterday and to our horror our 1 year old is able to climb up to the top all by herself (and likes to do so at every opportunity!). Obviously this is a safety concern so we are looking for something to cover the stairs easily to prevent her climbing up (and falling down!) - something like -…

My 17 month old constantly climbs up to the top bunks,she thinks it is the best fun ever but she has no idea and is too afraid to get back down!!
Would the older kids be able to open and close it?
