Jobseekers advice

    I recently lost my job.

I understand that I do qualify for jobseekers benefit.

However I have very little money and I live away from the main transport routes and cities. So my plan would be to sign on to the jobseekers benefit and spend 12 weeks saving a bit of money, upskilling and buying some badly needed work clothes. Then after 10 weeks I would like to go to go to the UK to begin the 'Job Hunt'

So basically i'm wondering if this is allowed? Will I be interviewed and grilled during those first 12 weeks?

I want to sign on now, then do 12 weeks preperation ( saving, upskilling ect ) but only want to start applying for jobs after week 12.

Otherwise I will just be turning up to job interviews in ragged clothes and not having any real way to get to the job in the mornings if awarded.

if you are applying for jobseekers benefit - you cant leave the country, plus you'll need to collect the payment from your local PO on the day they choose.

If things are the same as when I received it, you won't be bothered much while you are on benefit. You will have to collect your payment by a certain day each week or it will be withdrawn, there used to be a 2-3 day window in which you could pick it up. So I would say you could attend interviews in the UK if you lined up a bunch of them together and be back within the week.

    I see........
although I read earlier that you can go to job seek and collect in the UK for max 13wks after 4 wks on the JB.
    Maybe I missed something

No you could be right about that, I'm not an expert and it's several years since I received jobseekers benefit. They should be able to tell you when you apply anyway.

ok sound. The main thing is that I hope they won't hassle me too much while I try to sort myself out.

Look at some of the springboard courses or other upskilling courses (there are others out there that aren't on springboard but you can still get onto if you're unemployed), you may find one of use to you.
