I have a budget of 6000 and basically looking for best possible car at that price with a decent mpg rate and preferably a saloon. Would love to be able to get an 08 passat which I've seen a few on done deal but would be suspicious of the quality at that price. I've read on other posts that the passats at this price should be avoided because of high mileage. What is high mileage for an 08 car? Open to buying a petrol too. Fairly clueless about cars to be honest so just looking for advice on a good car I could get at that price.
Just as an example here is one I have been looking at https://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/stunning-passat-1-4-tsi-highline-spec-tax-nct-/10574197

Can't see you needing a diesel then. 8k would get you an absolute crock of a post 08 Passat tdi.
1.4 tsi pre mid 08 would be better for you I reckon.

What are those 1.4 tsi passats like to drive? I heard its best to only go for the 122bhp as it doesnt have the supercharger that the 140bhp and 170bhp engines have, therefore being more reliable.

Ya was looking at them also but wasent sure how good or reliable they are. Seems a very big to have a 1.4 engine?

It's 122 bhp, and a good bit of torque.
A 1.6 non turbo engine used to be the norm on them. Around 110bhp.
They would feel kinda like a sausage-and-chips 1.8 to drive
