achilles tendonitis

About 2.5 years ago, I started to run at the gym (treadmill), but a couple weeks later, I started feeling pains in my left foot, at the insertion of the Achilles, with the usual symptoms of, foot feels sore when I wake up but pain goes away as it warms up. I've stopped running and during the 2.5 years, I'd barely do any runs. Some days I'd be completely fine, for up to several hours, some worse. Recently, started doing the c25k programme and went all the way up to the 3rd week. The pain wasn't abysmal and the usual dose of pills, cream and ice would sort things out. Until the last month or so, at which point walking became a constant pain. I got an MRI done on my left foot and it was diagnosed indeed as being a achilles tendonitis. My GP referred me to a doctor at the hermitage clinic that goes by the name of David Burton with the side note that he had an interest in ankle problems. All good, but for the last 2 weeks and a day, I haven't been able to speak to his secretary to setup an appointment. Left a few voicemails, none was returned. So my question is, do you know of any *good* specialists I could look into as an alternative and seek my GP to refer me to them? and beyond the doctor choice, has anyone dealt with similar and what was the solution and how well did you recover? Also, what are your thoughts on steroidal injections for this?

I'm 6'8 and weight ~24 stone. Eventhough I don't eat all that much, I can't seem to drop below this weight level, constantly fluctuating -8pound/+8pound. Although I love walking, I find myself making lazy choices because of the pain, so I'd love to get this sorted for good and would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has gone through a similar ordeal :)

    could try
    http://www.performanceclinic.ie/

your weight is going to be a problem, it will amplify any other issues because of the stress you are putting your achilles (and everything else) through

Many thanks, this sounds interesting. I understand that my weight isn't helping, but not being able to do exercise to help speeding up my metabolism, isn't helping either :( Cycling is my go to sport atm, but still not very much
    into it.
