That means a private sale 2.0 petrol 06 is worth....

I think it'd be worth a fair bit less than a GTI. Someone after a GTI knows it's a 2.0 petrol, etc, wants the GTI badge, looks, kit, etc. Someone after an A3 most likely wants a sensible diesel or small cc petrol and dare I say it, probably more appealing to females who have no interest in performance (massive generalisation alert ;)). Plus the Audi has nothing to differentiate it looks wise over a 1.6.

It might appeal to someone who wants the performance of a GTi but doesn't want the attention a GTi gets or who might not be able to insure a GTi. Such buyers though maybe in small numbers so it can take longer to sell.

It's not a 2.0T Quattro by any chance is it?
One of them would be rare enough and could be worth as much or more than a mk5 gti.

The fact it is quattro changes things. Is it 3dr or 5dr?

It is a quattro yeah. I don't recall ever seeing the 2.0T in front wheel only in an A3, I think they were maybe all quattro.

That's a nice car you have and should sell to an enthusiast.

The 3 door. I don't think I ever seen a 2.0T sportback in that era car, though maybe they did make them.

I don't know about the sportback myself.

What's the spec of the car?

You could post it for sale here.

Nice car OP, I'd say you're value is a little high but no harm in advertising it at that money and see how it develops! Personally id go for the sleeper look of the A3 over the GTI and another plus is the A3 2.0 4x4 would not be all that commonplace.

Any ideas on what you will replace it with?

Have you thought about selling in the UK? VRT refund and the XR being favourable might get s better price. A friend of mine sold his 2.0t sportback in the UK after 6 months on DD. It was a few years newer and had tiny miles.

I never paid vrt as I qualified for exemption, though a UK sale is definitely an option. They have no bother importing a car once it is ex UK I think.

Only issue with this is getting a UK buyer to either buy blind and get it shipped over, or to get them over to view it in the first place.

Is there really that little demand for a 2.0t in Ireland?

I'd have thought that would sell handy enough.

I managed to sell my 3.0 a 2.0 with lower tax is always desirable even in the Irish market.

It sounds like a nice car, something a little bit different.
