    Hi,
I *think* I have researched the issue, but before I spend money and start moving the furniture about, would appreciate a sanity check on the following:

    Before
Used to run a PS3 to the TV via my beloved amplifier (yamaha rx v2700). Which meant
+ big sounds for when I watch films on the PS
-big sounds when the kids are playing COD
WAF: ok, second hdmi from UPC box to TV
    Currently:
PS3 is going direct to TV
+ kids can fire up COD without powering up the amp
    - I've lost the immersive sound experience I worked decades to have
    Plan/expectation:
hdmi splitter betwixt PS3 and TV/amp. If I shove something like http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/2-way-hdmi-splitter-n08gf I'll have the best of both worlds.

    Workable?

Yep absolutely - only thing that might get in the way is an "ARC" enabled HDMI ; just make sure you don't use that on the TV.

Also ( and a simpler option) might think to run an optical cable from the TV set to your 2700. You get the 5.1 sound passed back through the from the tvs optical /hdmi loop.
