    Hi guys,
I'm buying a laptop for college and i will need it to be able to use Solidworks and Photoshop and i was just wondering if these specs would be good enough or right for the job.

    Specs:
    Intel Core I7 Quad Core Processor i7 4720hq (2.60GHz, 3.5ghz Turbo)
    8GB KINGSTON SODIMM DDR3 1600MHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970m 6.0GB
    500GB Samsung 850 EVO

Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks.

Those specs should have no issue with solid works at all if anything they are too much.
The mobile GPU should help with realistic graphical renderings in PS and SolidWorks so that's always nice.

Thanks for the quick reply, what could i do to make it a bit cheaper? And would a good quality mouse be of any help?

Dropping the GPU to an 8xxM series will bring the price way down. Even a 7xxM will be enough for it.

A mouse is incredibly useful for Solidworks, get a good solid one.

Laptops usually aren't customizable so where you are buying from could determine how much you save/gain in buying that particular laptop. From the specs you posted it looks like a very high end laptop that is easily €1000. Maybe try posting the site and any other tasks you plan on using the laptop for to give a better idea.

Buying a mouse for a laptop is always nice, but considering its just solidworks / PS I wouldn't buy spend any more than €20-30

I'm getting this laptop off pcspecialist.co.uk, is there a better site you'd recommend?
And i was looking at the logitech MxMaster Mouse, would that be a good one?

It will mainly be for solidworks and photoshop as im doing a design course and then just general web browsing and for watching films.

This laptop is closer to 2k than 1k I'd say

I reckon you could cut back a good bit

Will you be doing complex 3-D modelling or more basic stuff?

And is a desktop an option?

It would be cheaper to buy two top of the line desktops... xD

    My suggestion:
    http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/SkyFireIV-14/
CPU: set to I3 go to I5 if you have the cash
HDD: set to 120gb SSD or more if you want.
Windows: set to no OS, you can buy on reddit for 20e compared to 100e on there.

Comes out at €709, although €833 for i5 and 250gb SSD is worth it.

Also budget for a monitor as well. It will be extremely beneficial when working at home
